Building Positive Classroom Cultures

1-The foundations of positive behaviour .png

Week 1 – The Foundations of Positive Behaviour

Positive behaviour begins with the culture adults create around pupils every day. Clear expectations, predictable routines, positive relationships and consistent adult responses help pupils feel safe, understand what is expected and engage successfully with learning. In this session, we’ll explore the foundations that underpin positive behaviour and consider how small, consistent actions from adults can create calmer, more purposeful classrooms.

Week 2 – Building Trust and Strong Relationships

Positive behaviour begins with the culture adults create around pupils every day. Clear expectations, predictable routines, positive relationships and consistent adult responses help pupils feel safe, understand what is expected and engage successfully with learning. In this session, we’ll explore the foundations that underpin positive behaviour and consider how small, consistent actions from adults can create calmer, more purposeful classrooms.

Week 3 – Creating Belonging and Classroom community

Pupils are more likely to engage positively when they feel known, valued and that they genuinely belong within their classroom community. A strong sense of belonging is built through everyday relationships, inclusive routines and opportunities for every pupil to contribute. In this session, we’ll explore practical ways to strengthen classroom community, build connection between pupils and create an environment where everyone feels safe, respected and ready to learn.

Week 4 – High Expectations with Warmth

High expectations and positive relationships work best when they exist together. Pupils benefit from adults who are clear and consistent about boundaries while remaining calm, respectful and supportive in how those expectations are communicated. In this session, we’ll explore how combining warmth with high expectations can strengthen relationships, promote positive behaviour and create a classroom culture where pupils feel both supported and accountable.

Week 5 – The Power of Routines and Consistency

Clear routines and consistent adult responses help create predictable classrooms where pupils know what is expected and can focus their attention on learning. When routines are explicitly taught, practised and reinforced, they reduce uncertainty and support positive behaviour. In this session, we’ll explore how purposeful routines and consistency across everyday classroom moments can create calmer environments, strengthen expectations and help pupils develop greater independence.

6- Reflecting on classroom culture.png

Week 6 – Reflecting on Classroom Culture

Classroom culture is shaped by the routines, relationships, expectations and interactions that pupils experience every day. Taking time to reflect helps us recognise what is working well and where small changes could create an even calmer, safer and more positive learning environment. In this final session, we’ll reflect on the culture within our classrooms and identify one purposeful next step to strengthen behaviour, belonging and readiness to learn.
